The goal is to connect people through commerce, wherever they may be.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership will result in a new eBay-powered platform, eBay.MallforAfrica.com. It will first be open to Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana in 2016, with other African countries following in the future.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.globalizationpartners.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ebay-mfa_330x249.jpg\" alt=\"gpi-ebay mallforafrica-home\" width=\"330\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p>eBay Business Development Director, Fernando Saiz says, &#8220;The platform will enable inventory from all eBay U.S. individual and business sellers with a 300+ star rating\u00a0to\u00a0be purchased by buyers in Nigeria and Kenya.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the deal include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The proprietary platform acts as a digital broker and logistics manager between U.S. retailers and African ecommerce consumers.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crunchbase.com%2Forganization%2Fmallforafrica&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNGG2cJ9vM9oRVSNudxt_UjCC7Gk3Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MallforAfrica<\/a> has financial backing from UK private equity firm\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.heliosinvestment.com%2F&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNGmCUlbKQb6FHO0v9fRf20DHaVyyg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Helios Investment Partners<\/a> and a partnership with Macy&#8217;s.<\/li>\n<li>MallforAfrica&#8217;s platform will handle logistics and payments for eBay products, accepting local and digital payments from partners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crunchbase.com\/organization\/paga\">Paga<\/a> in Nigeria and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.safaricom.co.ke\/personal\/m-pesa\">M-Pesa<\/a> in Kenya, payments will go back to eBay sellers in dollars.<\/li>\n<li>MallforAfrica has its own product\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Ffortune.com%2F2015%2F02%2F16%2Fnigeria-internet-startups%2F%3Fiid%3Dleftrail&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNGreuWJkVURYUyKs6JQlhMuaLfhYQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">processing center<\/a> in Portland, Oregon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to a McKinsey Global Institute report, Africa&#8217;s consumer spending is estimated to exceed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mckinsey.com%2Fglobal-locations%2Fafrica%2Fsouth-africa%2Fen%2Frise-of-the-african-consumer&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNElJGsc6OApDIBYcLR0CNVNwBGaJg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$1.4 trillion annually by 2020<\/a> and online sales are expected to top\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mckinsey.com%2Findustries%2Fhigh-tech%2Four-insights%2Flions-go-digital-the-internets-transformative-potential-in-africa&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AFQjCNFN-EiPyuFVjW0_rlPL8OKJ0DezdA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$75 billion by 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To read more, please see: <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2016\/06\/27\/expanding-in-africa-ebay-partners-with-mallforafrica-com\/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000591&amp;yptr=yahoo\"> Expanding in Africa, eBay partners with MallForAfrica.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In July 2016, American eBay sellers will have access to African ecommerce consumers thanks to a new partnership between eBay and online shopping startup MallforAfrica.com.
